ABOUT THE ONP-HRDC SYSTEM
Background
Ospital ng Palawan (ONP), a Level 2-general hospital with 213 authorized bed capacity, operates on the mandate of improving its health services through evidence-based practice. The commencement of the Residency Training Programs for Medicine and Pediatric Departments herald the prime need to streamline the processes for conducting research in Ospital ng Palawan. As the first Level 2 government health facility in Palawan and MIMAROPA region, ONP is a recipient of various requests to conduct health research emanating from different organizations including professional and non-professional proponents. External stakeholders, master’s degree professionals and students of K-12 curriculum are the common and regular advocates of the research applications/requisitions. Apart from this, the agency is preparing for the eventual efflux of research studies originating from the medical residents of the hospital. While the processes and procedure of application to approval is defined, it is the goal of the Professional Education, Training, and Research Unit to promote a simple, efficient, and expeditious scheme towards the acceptance of the proposal anchored on the local and international rules and guidelines on the conduct of technically and ethically-sound research.
